Men's Tennis Dominates Avila, 7-0
(Hastings, NE) – The men's tennis team bounced back well from their loss yesterday to handily beat Avila, 7-0, marking the programs' first sweep since March 2022. It also marked the first time since April of 2018 that both the men's and women's teams shutout the same team during the year.
Freshmen Joel Carter and Ben Hafer defeated Avila at #1 doubles, 6-2, and the #2 doubles team of freshman Alex Hafer and junior Ethan Mins blanked the Eagles, 6-0, in their match. Freshman Ethan Zimmerman and senior Nick Smeltzer also won their #3 doubles match with ease at 6-1.
The Broncos took all 12 singles sets, all without dropping more than four games in any of the six matches. Carter and Smeltzer finished #1 and #2 singles at 6-0, 6-1, while A. Hafer won at #3 singles by a score of 6-2, 6-1.
At #4 singles, B. Hafer took the first set 6-3, then cruised to a 6-1 second-set victory. Mins double-bageled the Eagles at #5 singles and Zimmerman shutout his #6 singles opponent in the first set before taking the second set, 6-1, to complete the 7-0 victory.
