Men Earn Win over Avila, Baker Tennis Competes in Season-Opening Weekend

LAWRENCE, Kan. - Kicking off their 2025 spring season, the Baker men's and women's tennis teams hosted a pair of matches in Lawrence, Kan. this past weekend where the Wildcats faced off against Avila on Saturday, followed by Kansas Wesleyan on Sunday.

With the matches being held at Genesis Lawrence South, the BU men came away with a dominating victory on Saturday, sweeping the Eagles in the Wildcats' first competition of the spring. The Wildcats put up a strong fight on the women's side, but fell 5-2 to the Eagles.

On Sunday, the Wildcat men came up short in its battle with in-state opponent Kansas Wesleyan as the Coyotes narrowly edged past BU, 4-3. KWU came out on top of the women's match, 5-2 with Dayna Steadman and Abbie Linn picking up another pair of victories for BU.

Overall for the weekend, Juan Manuel Avila won both of his individual matches and teamed up with River Flaska for a doubles win against AU. Steadman and Linn each went a perfect 2-0 in their individual matches and paired up to win both doubles matches.

Up next, Baker will host Friends for a set of matches on Friday, February with their matchup set for 4:30 p.m. at Genesis Lawrence South.
