BASEBALL SWEPT AT OTTAWA

OTTAWA, Kan. – Avila baseball lost two at Ottawa on Saturday afternoon, 9-4 and 5-4, falling in the second game on a walk-off home run after making a sixth-inning comeback.

Despite the first three Eagle batters of game one reaching base, getting five baserunners and three runs, Avila fell 9-4 to Ottawa.

Ottawa utilized a five-run eighth inning with the score tied at four to finish the game off.

Game one's top performer was Zach Dillman, who smacked a home run and finished with pair of runs scored. Landon Vahle, Jack Virden and Will Clark were the three other Eagles with RBI in the contest.

Clark and Dillman each had two hits of their own in the first game.

On the mound, Antonio Villalobos pitched six strong innings, giving up just two runs on seven hits.

Avila did not let the disappointing opening game impact the second half of the doubleheader with game number two being close throughout.

Avila got off to a good start at the plate for the second time on the day, scoring two in the top of the first with Virden hitting a two-RBI double to score Dillman and Dober.

Ottawa scored two in the second and one each in the third and fifth.

Trailing 4-2 with six outs remaining, Avila's offense got the team back in the game in the top of the sixth.

Clark and Tyler King got on base to start the inning. With two runners in scoring position, Gavyn Dansby scored Clark on a sacrifice fly.

The next batter, Robby Cable, scored King on an RBI double.

Avila held Ottawa off the scoreboard in the sixth as the teams were tied heading into the final inning on Saturday's doubleheader.

The Eagles had two runners on in the seventh but were unable to score, setting the table for Ottawa in the bottom half of the inning.

On the second pitch in bottom of the seventh, Ottawa's Cole Broughton hit a walk-off home run to send the Eagles back to campus with a 5-4 loss.

At the plate in game number two, Dober, Virden and Cable each had a pair of base knocks with Virden also collecting two RBI in the contest.

Avila will be back in action on Tuesday afternoon at The Z facing Saint Mary at 2 PM.
