BASEBALL FIGHTS BACK TO BEAT YORK, SWEEP SEASON SERIES

YORK, Neb. – Trailing 6-2 through four innings, Avila baseball put up seven runs in the final four innings to battle back at York, winning 9-7 and sweeping the season series. Making up for four errors on the day, Avila's offense would carry the team to victory.

Leadoff hitter Robby Cable scored a run in both the first and second innings to give Avila an early 2-1 victory.

York's offense came alive in the bottom of the fourth.

The Panthers' first three runs of the fourth crossed the plate without the ball leaving the infield. The home team ended the fourth with a two-RBI single to right field to give York a 6-2 lead.

Avila's starter, Joey Reichmuth, pitched 3.1 innings, giving up six runs – only two of which were earned – before Aidan Johnson came on in relief to throw 5.1 innings of one-run ball to keep the Eagles in the game.

The teams were scoreless in the fifth before Cable accounted for his third run of the game – this time driving in Tyler King on an RBI double.

Inching its way back in the game, Avila would put the game out of reach in the seventh inning.

The first five batters of the inning reached base as Tyler King opened the scoring up with an RBI single, followed two batters later by a two-RBI single from Thomas English.

Just like that, Avila came back to tie the game up.

As the lineup turned over, Cable picked up another RBI. Immediately after York's pitching change, Zach Dillman notched the final run of the five-run seventh with an RBI single of his own.

York would add a run in the eighth on a throwing error, but Avila would score an insurance run in the ninth to complete the comeback and send the Eagles back to Kansas City with a 9-2 victory and a season sweep over the Panthers.

Sitting atop the batting order, Cable finished the game 4-5 with a walk, two runs scored and two RBI. Zach Dillman continued his tremendous season, going 3-5 with two RBI, while Ricky Dober and Tommy English added two RBI of their own.

Avila continues its road swing with three games in Wichita this weekend against Friends. First pitch on Friday is slated for 3 PM.
