Game 2
Avila
Friends
WICHITA, Kan. – A big Falcon offensive day followed by a low-scoring nail-biter saw Avila baseball lose two at Friends on Saturday, 12-3 and 1-0.
Friends scored early and often in game one of the doubleheader at the West Side Athletic Field, putting up multiple runs in four separate innings and single runs in the third and eighth.
Avila's offense put up a trio of runs in the fourth on RBI singles from Thomas English, Rusten Traxler and JJ Stubblefield.
The three-run fourth was not enough as Avila fell to Friends in the first game, 12-3.
The second game of the afternoon was a 180-degree turnaround from the first – a tight, one-run contest.
Friends took a 1-0 lead after one and that would be all the offense from the two teams.
The Eagles received a much-needed six-inning complete-game pitching performance from Thomas Ringer, who unfortunately took the loss but only allowed one run on five hits while striking out a pair of Falcons.
Avila's offense had a tough time putting anything together in the final game, only amassing three hits, while leaving 11 runners stranded on base throughout the seven innings.
Unable to capitalize on the action on the base paths, Avila heads backs to Kansas City with a 1-0 loss and a season sweep to Friends.
The Eagles are back at The Z for two home games this week. A single game versus Saint Mary at 2 PM on Monday and one against Missouri Valley at 1 PM on Tuesday.
