MCPHERSON, Kan. – Another high-scoring game one from the Eagles was not enough as Avila baseball lost both games of the doubleheader at McPherson on Saturday, 16-11 and 9-1.
Avila could not have gotten off to a better start in the opening game of the doubleheader, putting up 10 runs in the first five innings.
Avila's scoring got started in the first inning with a three-run home run from Ricky Dober, his third in the first two games of the KCAC series.
The Eagles scored two more in the second thanks to a Zach Dillman multi-RBI double and would add three more in the third inning, courtesy of an RBI single from Will Clark and a two-run long ball from Robby Cable.
Through three, Avila led 8-0.
The Eagles would push it to 10-0 after scoring two more in the fifth on runs from Clark and Cable.
From there, McPherson would take control.
The Bulldogs broke the game open with a 10-run sixth inning and added five more in the seventh.
Avila would pick up another run in the eighth, but it wasn't enough as they couldn't keep up with McPherson's quick scoring, falling 16-11.
Game number two didn't end up better for Avila, as McPherson hit three home runs and a two-run double – all in the first four innings – to put the game out of reach early.
Avila would only add one run in the game before ultimately falling, 9-1.
The Eagle offense had a strong series against McPherson, scoring 27 runs in the three-game set.
Avila will play one game at Southwestern on Tuesday before hosting three with Tabor beginning at 2 PM on Friday.
