FOOTBALL LOSES HIGH-SCORING AFFAIR WITH MCPHERSON

KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Avila dropped to 1-4 on the season following a 43-24 loss to KCAC-rival McPherson on Saturday afternoon at The Z.

On the third play of the game, McPherson connected on a 60-yard touchdown pass to take an early 7-0 lead.

Immediately answering back, Avila's Juan Delgado-Medina capped off a 14-play, 72-yard drive with a 32-yard field goal to get the Eagles on the scoreboard.

The Bulldogs needed just seven plays on the next drive to put another passing touchdown on the scoreline.

McPherson added their first rushing touchdown of the day in the second quarter and entered the halftime locker room with a 21-3 lead.

Bulldog touchdowns on their first two drives of the second half increased McPherson's lead to 35-3 midway through the third quarter.

Avila answered back with touchdown drives on their final drive of the third quarter and the opening drive of the fourth quarter to make the final frame interesting. With just under 12 minutes remaining, Avila made it a two-score game, trailing 35-17.

Just like their first score of the game, the Bulldogs utilized a big play to get back on the scoreboard. Tristan Szabo found Traven Lewis-Johnson for a 77-yard touchdown for the final nail in the coffin. Szabo finished the afternoon by completing 72 percent of his passes for 273 and four touchdowns in the game.

The Eagles found the endzone one more time late in the fourth quarter thanks to a Kameron Greene 65-yard interception return touchdown.

Avila hits the road for two road games against Evangel (October 5) and Kansas Wesleyan (October 19) before returning to The Z to take on Tabor on October 26.
