COLD SHOOTING HURTS MEN’S BASKETBALL AT OTTAWA

OTTAWA, Kan. – Avila men's basketball was unable to make it back-to-back wins on Monday at Ottawa, falling to the Braves, 77-57.

A cold-shooting effort hindered the Eagles chances in the KCAC rivalry as Avila only shot 20-of-62 from the floor and 10-of-17 from the free throw line in the contest.

One of the bright spots for the Eagles was Joe Kearney, who recorded his second-straight 20-plus-point game as he put up 22 points with the help of four three-pointers. It was Kearney's fourth-straight double-figure scoring game and sixth in his last seven games. Additionally, Xavier Kahube put up a season-high 15 points in the losing effort.

The Eagles kept it to within four points in the first half, but the Braves pulled away after halftime, outscoring Avila 43-27 in the second half.

Avila has a chance to quickly bounce back as the Eagles face Evangel on Wednesday night at Mabee Fieldhouse. Tipoff is slated for 7:30 PM.
