NORTH NEWTON, Kan. – Avila men's basketball's losing streak stretched to seven games with a 97-73 loss to Bethel on Saturday afternoon.
The Threshers came out hot in the first half, outscoring Avila 54-30 in the opening 20 minutes.
Avila played a tough second half – matching Bethel's second-half point total – but the big halftime deficit was the team's downfall.
Bethel's 50 percent shooting from the floor seemingly won the game for the Threshers. Fifty of Bethel's 97 points came from their reserves.
Avila only managed to shoot 33 percent from three-point range and 15-of-29 from the free throw line in the game.
Individually, Xavier Kahube was the team's leading scorer again, scoring 19 points and adding nine boards.
Jehoiada Goins scored a season-high 14 off the bench to go along with nine rebounds of his own.
The Eagles will look to get back in the win column on Wednesday when they travel to Saint Mary for an 8 PM tip.
