MEN’S BASKETBALL HIRES BRODERICK STEWART AS ASSISTANT COACH

KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Avila men’s basketball and head coach Tyler Bredehoeft have announced the addition of Broderick Stewart to the program’s coaching staff as an assistant coach.

“I am incredibly honored to join the program at Avila University,” said Stewart. “I’m am excited to get to work with such a great staff at a university that wants to see the program succeed. I look forward to helping our student-athletes win both on and off the court and build something special.”

Stewart spent the previous two seasons as a Graduate Assistant for Southwestern College men's basketball. He was instrumental in various aspects of the program, including recruiting, scouting and player development. During his time at Southwestern, he saw the Moundbuilders make an NAIA National Tournament and coached All-American guard Cevin Clark.

Prior to his time at Southwestern, Stewart spent four years as a student assistant at Emporia State under three-time national champion head coach Craig Doty, where he contributed to all facets of the program. His efforts played a key role in leading the Hornets to a national tournament appearance.

“I have gotten to know Broderick over the past few years through the coaching world, said Bredehoeft. "He has done a phenomenal job as a student assistant at Emporia State under Coach Doty and excelled in his role at Southwestern under Coach O’Brien. Broderick will bring a tremendous knowledge and work ethic to our staff and team and we are excited to have him join us here at Avila.”

A native of Emporia, Kan., Stewart graduated from Emporia State University with a Bachelor's degree in Sports Leadership and Recreation.

Coming off their second-highest win total in 10 years, the 2025-26 season will be Bredehoeft’s third season in charge of the Eagles as the program continues to rise.
