BOWLING HONORS A SPECIAL GROUP OF SENIORS, HAS A STRONG SHOWING AT EAGLE INVITATIONAL
BELTON, Mo. – In its lone home event of the year, Avila bowling had a busy weekend on Saturday and Sunday. With strong performances on both days, Sunday was highlighted by a pre-competition ceremony honoring its seniors – players who have been with the program since its inception.
"These five seniors will always be a part of Avila and this program. They took a chance on Avila and myself to be pioneers in this program and have built it to what it has become," said head coach Paul Wolf. "There is still plenty of work to do, but their impact will be felt for years to come. I am so proud to have been their coach and more proud of the great people that they continue to be. I get emotional when I think about what next year is going to be like without them."
Saturday's Day One was a huge showing for the Eagles. The men's squad finished in second place overall – just 48 pins behind Oklahoma Christian. Davis Best was named to the All-Tournament Team, finishing in second place in the individual standings, finishing his five games with a cumulative 1,107, good for a 221.4 average. Additionally, Brody Stanback was also in the top-10 with an average of 211.4 across his five games.
On the women's side, Avila's senior Devyn Coleman recorded a 160.2 average across her five games. As a team, the women finished in sixth place with a 4,147 total.
After five team games on Saturday, there were five Baker games on Sunday at Aaron's Family Fun Center in Belton.
The Eagle women put up another strong performance on Day Two, finishing in fourth place with a total score of 4,179. The women's side was just 31 pins away from finishing with a top-three performance on Sunday.
Following the women's lead, the Avila men also finished in fourth place on Sunday, putting up 4,808 pins to put a cap on a strong weekend performance at the program's home tournament.
The NAIA Regionals are up next for both squads next Saturday and Sunday in Topeka, Kan.
