Golf: Eagles compete in rain-shortened Graceland Invitational

Kansas City, MO - The Avila men's and women's golf teams competed over the weekend at the Graceland Invitational and were once again forced to just one round of golf due to heavy rains.

Saturday's second round was suspended and canceled due to heavy rain that caused the course to be unplayable, marking the second straight tournament that the Eagles have played in that has been cut short.

Senior men's golfer Taylor Livingston finished with the best round for the Eagles in Friday's opening round, posting a 75 at the Mozingo Lake Golf Course in Maryville, Mo. to earn a share of tenth place. Livingston would have entered the final round just five shots back of the lead had the second round taken place.

Tommy Edwards finished with an opening round 80, good for a tie for 26th place, while Troy Prasertsit closed out his first round with a 95, which placed him in 61st place.

For the women, Abby Clark finished tied for 17th with a 91 in Friday's opening round, followed closely by Lexi Clary, who earned a 21st place finish by shooting a 94.

Grace Miller's 96 earned her a share of 26th place, while Kailey Fraher finished tied for 35th after shooting a 99 at the Graceland Invite.

Conditions Friday were very rough for the golfers with temperatures dropping throughout the day into the 40s with high winds and occasional rain, but it was nothing compared to the downpour that came down on Saturday, forcing course officials to cancel the final round, which was already in progress.

Due to the fact that not all golfers were able to finish even nine holes, all scores reverted back to the opening round score.

Avila will return to action on April 10 and 11 when they compete in the Virginia McCoy Intercollegiate at The National Golf Club in Kansas City, Mo.
