
XC: Eagles have strong showing at Muthama-Rogers Invitational
NORTH NEWTON, Kan. - The women's cross country team finished fourth and the individual men had a strong showing on Saturday at the Muthama-Rogers XC Invitational in North Newton, Kan.
The women's team had a historic day on Saturday en route to their fourth place finish, earning their best average time in school history at 21:17. Junior Penny Fenn earned the best individual finish for the women, finishing 11th with a time of 20:17.9.
Abigail Conner followed with a sixteenth place finish with a time of 20:43.5, which set a new personal record. Lexi Comparato also set a new PR with a time of 22:17.7, good for a 30th place finish. Tenka Stringer finished 21st on Saturday, with Aubrey Cravy finishing 25th.
The Eagles finished second among the five Kansas Collegiate Athletic Conference programs that competed on Saturday despite their overall fourth place finish. Saint Mary won the race, followed by Benedictine (Kan.) and Dodge City CC.
For the men, Thomas Bettis earned the top finish with a time of 29:06.7, good for 30th-best of all racers on Saturday. Tyler King followed with a time of 30:42.7 and Matthew Roth finished with a time of 31:49.1. Roger Wadsworth also finished with a time of 33:32.4 in Saturday's 8,000m race.
With just four racers, the men did not have enough racers to formulate a team score.
Avila will be back in action on Oct. 13 when they compete in the Fort Hays Classic in Hays, Kan.
