XC: Eagles have success at Emporia State, Mid-States Classic over weekend

KANSAS CITY, Mo. - The men's and women's cross country programs both saw success this weekend, with the men running Friday at the ESU Homecoming Invitational and the women at the NAIA Mid-States Classic on Saturday.

On the women's side, Penny Fenn once again led the way for the Eagles as the team earned a tenth place finish in a meet that had 24 total teams competing for the top spot. Avila finished with five season-bests and a pair of PRs while the team finished with an average time of 20:40, which is their best average of the season to date.

Fenn earned a time of 19:50.4, which was good for a 41st place finish on Saturday. Alexandra Comparato and Tenka Stringer came in at 20:21.7 and 20:24.9, good for spots 58 and 59, respectively. Reygan Hubbard finished 86th with a time of 21:07.7, and Aubrey Cravy finished 98th with a time of 21:40.0. Abigail Conner finished 103rd overall with a time of 21:51.1 to round things out for the Eagles.

There were 188 total runners in Saturday's 5K race, which took place at the Kansas Veteran's Home in Winfield, Kan.

The men opened the weekend on Friday at Emporia State, with all four runners finishing in the top 26, including a pair in the top twenty. Freshman Thomas Bettis led the way for the Eagles with a time of 30:32.4, good for a nineteenth place finish. Sophomore Matt Roth followed right behind Bettis, finishing 20th with a time of 31:10.4, and junior Tyler King was 21st with a time of 31:13.4.

Roger Wadsworth earned a 26th place finish for the Eagles with a time of 34:35.4, rounding things out for the Eagles.

Both programs are now finished with the regular season, and are gearing up for the KCAC Cross Country Championships on Nov. 3 in North Newton, Kan.
