WOMEN’S BASKETBALL HAS HIGHEST-SCORING NIGHT IN THREE SEASONS, BEATS OTTAWA

OTTAWA, Kan. – Looking to quickly turn the page from Saturday's loss, Avila women's basketball put up a huge offensive showing on Monday evening at Ottawa, winning 95-63. The 95 points were the most scored by Avila since December 2021.

The Eagles led from the opening tip, scoring 23-plus points in each of the first three quarters before easing into victory with an 18-point fourth quarter.

A 30-8 second-quarter performance really swayed the game in Avila's favor. The Eagles shot a remarkable 71 percent in the second and 58 percent in the entire first half.

Avila's 51.5 field goal percentage for the game was its best shooting effort in two seasons.

Marlie Wright led Avila in scoring, putting up 19 points, six rebounds and five assists in the contest. Hannah Smith (15) and Kathleen Stanley (11) added double-figure scoring nights of their own while Brianne Kuhlman racked up 12 points off the bench, her highest-scoring effort since Nov. 20.

Smith and Stanley's nights were buoyed by three makes from three-point range each.

Also off the bench, Anastasia Wright dropped six points and a team-high eight rebounds. Madilyn Melton (4-4) and EJ Adams (3-3) each were perfect from the floor in the game as the duo helped to increase Avila's field goal percentage.

The Eagles topped the Braves in nearly every statistical category in the game: including bench points (34-25), points in the paint (36-24) and fast break points (13-2).

Avila continues its busy week on Wednesday back at Mabee Fieldhouse, taking on Evangel at 5:30 PM.
