YORK, Neb. – Avila women's basketball was unable to extend their winning streak on Wednesday night, falling at York, 76-56.
After keeping it close in the first and fourth quarters, the middle 20-minute stretch doomed the Eagles.
Avila entered the second quarter trailing by just three thanks in part to 53-percent shooting from the floor and five forced York turnovers in the first quarter.
Cold shooting in the second and third quarters saw Avila outscored by 16 and down by 19 entering the fourth quarter. The Eagles kept it close in the final frame, but ultimately fell to their KCAC rivals.
On the offensive end, Kathleen Stanley and Madilyn Melton put up 12 points each, while Anastasia Wright added 10 points and a team-high nine rebounds off the bench.
York shot 50 percent from the field for the game and outrebounded Avila by 12 in the game.
The Eagles (6-13, 6-7) will attempt to get back in the win column on Saturday afternoon at Southwestern.
