Four Eagles Earn Honorable Mention All-KCAC Accolades

Four Eagles Earn Honorable Mention All-KCAC Accolades

Four staples of the Avila women's soccer squad all season long were awarded Honorable Mention All-Conference honors from the KCAC to close out the 2023 season: senior forward Megan Nugent, senior defender Amaris Sigler, sophomore goalkeeper Olivia Seston, and freshman defender Hope Hines.

Fittingly, Avila was represented on the postseason awards list by a member of each of the four phases of the field, a reflection of the steady, balanced season the Eagles enjoyed en route to another appearance in the KCAC Tournament, an event they have only missed once in Katie LaForge's tenure as Avila's head coach.

Megan Nugent has been the leader of the Eagle offense every year she's been fit to play, and she closes her career in Kansas City as Avila's leader in every offensive category once again. The senior from Shawnee appeared in all 19 games this season and led the Eagles in goals (4), assists (4), points (12), shots (50) and shots on goal (26). She ranked safely in the KCAC's top 20 in points, and was one of the conference's leaders in shots created.

The former Avila Athletics Newcomer of the Year, Nugent earned Second Team All-KCAC honors in each of her first two seasons at Avila, and now finishes her career with her third postseason honor. She scored 24 goals in her three-plus seasons at Avila, the most by any Eagle in that timeframe.

Amaris Sigler is the exemplar of consistency and reliability, and has been for four seasons in a row now. Well known by now for her versatility, Sigler has seen extended time in every level of the game except goalkeeper in her college career before settling more into her preferred role of outside back in 2023. A contributor in all phases despite her defensive obligations, Sigler scored a goal and tied Nugent for the team lead with four assists, a career high.

The senior from Olathe was a Preseason All-KCAC honoree going into the 2023 season and made good on those expectations by earning Honorable Mention All-Conference accolades for the third time in her decorated Avila career.

Olivia Seston entered the season locked into a legitimate battle for the starting spot at her position, and finished the year as Avila's go-to goalkeeper. A transfer from nearby Johnson County Community College, Seston and returning Eagle Kenan Ebel split time in the cage for the full first half of the season before the newcomer eventually won the role outright. She went on to lead the Eagles in starts (13), wins (4), goals against (2.31) and save percentage (.706).

In her lone season at Avila, Seston finished tenth in the KCAC with 4.8 saves per game en route to Honorable Mention All-Conference status.

Another newcomer to the team, freshman Hope Hines quickly emerged as a critical member of Avila's defensive core. She appeared in all 19 games in her first-year campaign, and was one of only two Eagles (along with senior Brooke Clark) to start in 18. The Eagles employed her in a ton of different roles, including holding mid, centerback, and higher up in the midfield, where she recorded a goal and an assist.

The rest of the league clearly took notice of Hines' versatility and impact on the team, and rewarded her with Honorable Mention All-Conference honors to close out her freshman season.

Oklahoma Wesleyan was the dominant team in the KCAC once again this season, and those Eagles won every individual award except one. Tania Mocholi became the latest OKWU player to be named Most Valuable Player.

The full 2023 Women's Soccer All-KCAC Team, as voted on by the league's head coaches, is below, and can also be found on the KCAC website.
