OTTAWA, Kan. – in one of the strongest all-around performances of the season, Avila women's soccer picked up a 3-0 win at Ottawa on a chilly evening against their KCAC foe on Wednesday.
As one of the team's biggest performers this season, senior defender Addison Yinger got the scoring started first for Avila, off an assist from freshman Cali Lasater. It was Yinger's sixth goal of the season and her first since September 25.
Yinger's goal came in the 13th minute and just three minutes after her first shot attempt of the game sailed over the crossbar. Additionally, Samantha Mendez applied pressure early when her third-minute shot attempt was saved by the Braves' goalkeeper.
Four shot attempts later and nearing the halftime whistle, Cali Lasater added to her point total after her assist earlier with Avila's second goal of the game off a pass from Leah Reichert. The freshman has five goals and is tied for the KCAC lead with five assists on the season.
Avila entered the half leading 2-0.
Just as the team's were beginning the second half, the Eagles found the net again, pushing their lead to 3-0 off an Alexis Lausch goal, her second of the season.
Avila's offense applied constant pressure all evening, putting up 18 total shots, while the Avila defense had another exceptional performance, holding Ottawa to five total shots – all in the second half.
The Eagles' stalwart goalkeeper, Kenan Ebel, picked up four saves in the match and recorded her fifth shutout of the season – four coming in conference play.
Sitting at 8-3-3 (5-2-2 KCAC) with four games remaining, Avila has recorded its highest win total since the 2020-21 season. Avila is back at The Z on Saturday at noon as they take on Bethany for Senior Day.
