KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Avila volleyball faced a daunting test tonight at Mabee Fieldhouse against the NAIA's sixth-ranked Oklahoma Wesleyan Eagles. OKWU took all three sets, 25-20, 25-17 and 25-10.
On a night where the Eagles honored Daphne Gardner for her 1,000th career assist, the sophomore against paced the squad with 19 assists and finished second on the team with eight digs.
Avila was able to keep the first two sets close, going on a five-point run midway through the first set and keeping it to within four later in the first frame. The Eagles had an early 9-7 lead in the second set before a 9-1 run by OKWU.
OKWU took the third set in convincing fashion, going on a 16-3 run to take the final set and the match.
Avila will be back in action on Saturday as they travel to York at 2 PM.
