KANSAS CITY, Mo. – On the program's annual "Pink Out" game, Avila fell to Ottawa in three sets on Tuesday evening at Mabee Fieldhouse.
In the opening set of the highly-competitive match, Avila, after trailing by as many as nine, went on an 8-4 run before ultimately dropping the first set, 25-20.
The second was another close set. The teams were tied at 18 late in the frame before four Eagles errors gave the Braves the set, again at 25-20.
Avila led for the first part of the third set, holding on to a 14-11 lead before Ottawa took control and ultimately ended the third set and match on a 9-2 run, winning 25-17.
For the Eagles, Maddie Jones (14) and Sydney Owens (13) led all players in kills in the match. Additionally, Sophia Giorgio (21), Owens (13) and Daphne Gardner (12) were three of four players overall with double-figures in digs.
Avila (7-18, 1-6 KCAC) is back at Mabee Fieldhouse on Friday night at 6 PM as they face off against Bethany for the team's Blackout game.
