Avila Wrestling to Host 2023 Eagle Duals Friday and Saturday

This weekend, Avila University will open the doors of Mabee Fieldhouse for the 2023 Eagle Duals hosted and facilitated by Avila Wrestling. The two full days of collegiate dual competition will feature eight women's teams competing on Friday, December 15 starting at 11 AM followed by 12 men's teams competing on Saturday, December 16 starting at 10 AM.

Avila Wrestling has hosted an all-day dual event every December since the program's foundation, and the third installment of the end-of-year Eagle Duals figures to be as action-packed and entertaining as each of the previous two. Over the course of the two days, a 20 teams from 16 schools across three different levels of college athletics will compete in a total of 42 duals spanning four mats over the course of 13 hours of nonstop wrestling action.

The event kicks off on Friday with the 2023 Eagle Women's Duals. Wrestling powerhouse Grand View, the No. 2 team in the NAIA's most recent national rankings, headlines the eight-team field, which also features nationally-ranked squads from the KCAC (Ottawa and Saint Mary) and the HAAC (Baker), along with the host Avila Eagles, which are receiving national votes.

The field also features Indian Hills and Iowa Central, ranked the No. 1 and No. 2 squads in the junior college ranks, respectively, along with Quincy, an NCAA Division II squad from Illinois. Competition begins at 11 AM sharp on Friday morning and will run for a total of five rounds – 16 total dual matches.

Less than 24 hours later, a formidable crew of 12 NAIA men's wrestling teams will make their ways to the Mabee Fieldhouse mats for the 2023 Eagle Men's Duals. Five of the 12 squads on display are nationally ranked, including NAIA No. 10 Ottawa and No. 11 Missouri Valley, as well as Baker, Saint Mary and Oklahoma City.

The remainder of the field is composed of six squads that are receiving votes in the NAIA poll (in order: Central Methodist, William Penn, Avila, Concordia Nebraska, Missouri Baptist and Friends) along with Waldorf, which returns to Kansas City for the second straight season. Competition begins at 10 AM on Saturday and will run for a total of seven rounds – 26 total dual matches over four mats.

Admission to the event is priced at $10 per person, which grants access to Mabee Fieldhouse for the entire duration of the day's competition. The doors will open to fans and spectators approximately one hour before the start of the competition on both days. The Avila Sports Network will provide live stream coverage on each of the four mats on both days, with James Russell handling the play-by-play for all matches involving Avila on Mat 1. The streams will be available both live and on-demand at no charge.

Every match will also be scored live on TrackWrestling. Confirmations of scores will be posted on that site as well as the men's and women's schedule pages on avilaathletics.com at the conclusion of each day. Photo galleries from each day featuring every competing team will also be made available in due course.
